Hoya Temple (DOM-HoyaCE)

Background:

New set of maps was needed for an online tournament.​

This shows the iteration process of an existing map, taken to a state of being tournament worthy.

The problems:

  

  • Unfinished version (0.8)

  • Map was optimized for normal weapons

  • Map designed with translocator in mind​

  

  • Lack of distinctive theme

  • Difficult for player to orient through out the map

  • Inconsistency in textures, eye soreness

​

  

  • Lack of callouts and zones

  • Suboptimal spawn locations

  • Substandard game flow to the map

​

The solutions:

  

  • Optimizing the map for instagib game mode

  • Add a bouncer in the central room for maneuverability

  • Add more connectors through out the map

​

  • New egyptian theme

  • Color coding trims and doorways for easier navigation​

  • Consistent texture pack(s) for better readability

  

  • Optimizing spawn point locations.

  • Distinct callouts and zones through out the arena

  • Several play testing sessions with the community
